Abdominal Plastic Surgery Procedure

Abdominal surgery involves a long incision above the pubic area, which extends from one side of the waist to the other. The steps are as follows:

Possible side effects

Like any other surgery, abdominoplasty can have risks and side effects, including:

    • The surgical incision may be convex or wider.

    • The wound heals slowly, or there may be a loss of some tissue of the skin.

    • Numbness in the abdomen (may last for several months, but will gradually improve)

    • Lymph retention at the wound area is longer than usual.


Preparation before abdominoplasty:

In order for the surgery to go smoothly and reduce the risks, the following recommendations should be followed:

  • Report your health history and medical conditions. operation Tell your doctor about medications used, allergies, and dental problems.

  • If you have a medical condition, you must be evaluated and prepared by a specialist.

  • Refrain from taking certain medications, tonics, and herbs that may affect surgery, such as NSAIDs, aspirin, and certain vitamins, at least 7 days before surgery, and bring your own medications to inform your doctor on the day of surgery.

  • Refrain from smoking for at least 2-4 weeks before and after surgery to prevent ischemic tissue

  • Abstain from drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours before surgery and should continue to abstain for at least 1 week after surgery.

  • Shower, wash your hair. Clean your body thoroughly, especially the abdomen, navel, and groin.

  • Refrain from water and food as prescribed by the doctor before surgery to prevent choking while under anesthesia.

  • Eat a light diet before the surgery day, as it may be inconvenient to defecate after surgery.

  • Prepare loose, comfortable clothing and a belly band (if applicable) as recommended by your doctor.


Post-abdominal plastic surgery care

Proper postoperative care will help the wound heal quickly and achieve a good result:

  • Stay in hospital as recommended by your doctor (generally 1-2 days, or until the drain line is removed).

  • Lie in a slightly bent position to reduce tension in the wound area.

  • Press the pillow tightly on the abdomen when coughing, sneezing, laughing, or passing the belly.

  • After surgery, a urinary catheter may be inserted. The doctor will remove it when appropriate.

  • Get up and walk slowly for a short period of time, with a slight bend to prevent tension (under the supervision of a nurse).

  • Swelling and bruising around the wound will be most common in the     first 3 days and will gradually improve within 1-2 weeks. If the wound is bulging, it may need to be injected with medication.

  • During the first week after surgery. Bath agents should be wiped. If there is itching, powder can be applied, but do not apply to the wound area.

  • Avoid hard work or hard exercise for 6 weeks, can drive and do light work within 1-2 weeks.

  • Wear a belly band for at least 6 weeks and make sure the band is flat, not wrinkled, to help support the abdomen. Reduce swelling and keep the shape in place.
