Q: How long do I have to wear the Compression Garment after surgery? Won't it be terribly hot and uncomfortable in Thailand's weather?
Dr. Terng: The compression garment is your "best friend" initially. I recommend wearing it 24 hours a day (removing it only to shower) for the first 4 weeks. It helps drain lymphatic fluid, reduces swelling, and "locks" the J-Plasma heated skin tightly against the muscle. The good news is that modern Medical-grade garments are woven with advanced, lightweight, flexible, and Highly Breathable fibers. If your BMI is above the safety threshold, or if your belly fat is primarily Visceral fat (fat packed around the liver and internal organs which cannot be suctioned out), I typically advise patients to enter a medical weight loss program first (such as strict dieting or using GLP-1 weight-loss pens under medical supervision). Bring the weight down to an appropriate level, and then we can perform liposuction to contour the remaining Subcutaneous fat and excise the loose skin. This is the safest route, prevents complications, and yields the most beautifully sustainable results.
Q: Will Stretch Marks disappear 100%? And will the scars be ugly?
Dr. Terng: To be perfectly honest, the stretch marks from "below the navel down to the pubic bone" (the heaviest hit area) will be 100% excised and removed along with the excess skin. However, the stretch marks "above the navel" (which are usually fewer) will be pulled down to sit on the lower abdomen. Overall, the skin will look immensely smoother. As for the scars, they will be reddest and most prominent during the first 1-3 months (Inflammatory phase). After that, they will gradually lighten, flatten, and fade into a smooth white line over the course of about a year. Our clinic has comprehensive scar care programs.
